Install for Windows

Both NewModeWheel and the original ModeWheel require Windows 10 or later, and are provided using a conventional Windows installer (.msi) file that has been code-signed by a Microsoft Certificate Authority to ensure that it meets the requirements of the Windows Defender system. The procedure is the same for each:

  1. Download and save the installer (.msi) file to your computer.
  2. Run the installer and follow the instructions. This will install the application (and audioclips) in your Applications folder and add a shortcut icon to your Desktop.
  3. The application can be run either via the Desktop shortcut or by selecting the .exe in the Applications folder.
  4. If for some reason you wish to remove the application, simply run the installer again and choose the Uninstall option, which will delete the program and all related files.

A detailed Quickstart Manual for the original ModeWheel is available in PDF format:

Note to users who downloaded ModeWheel prior to May 2023: This current (1.2.1) version of the original ModeWheel corrects a problem with some recent versions of Windows 10/11 that occasionally prevented an application from opening. (It also substitutes .wav files for the original .au files to improve audio playback.) I recommend updating to this current version.

Install for macOS

Both NewModeWheel and the original ModeWheel require macOS 10.12 (Sierra) or later, and run on Macs that employ the new generation of Apple processors. Each is provided here for download using a conventional macOS disk image (.dmg) file that has been code-signed and notarized by Apple to ensure that it meets the requirements of the macOS Gatekeeper system. The procedure is the same for each:

  1. Download and save the disk image (.dmg) file to your computer.
  2. Double-click the .dmg file to mount the disk image.
  3. In the disk image window, drag the application icon onto the Applications folder icon. This will copy the program to your Applications folder. (The needed audioclips are embedded in the application itself.)
  4. Close and unmount the disk image. The application can be run by double-clicking its icon in the Applications folder, or via an alias added either to your Dock or desktop.
  5. If for some reason you wish to remove the application, simply drag the program icon from the Applications folder to the Trash.

If you wish to uninstall ModeWheel, simply drag the program icon from the Applications folder to the Trash. (This is the only item that was installed on your computer.)
